Destination Serfdom? Armed with a laissez-faire attitude towards the Invisible Hand, I procured a copy of F.A. Hayek's Road to Serfdom with a five-finger discount. Working at an antiquarian near free-market niche and Hayek's home base, The University of Chicago, my brother stole many books - which I then stole from him. This older version, an eighth "impression" printed in July 1945, features small type just above Hayek's famous dedication of the book "To Socialists of All Parties" that says, "This printing has been redesigned to conform to the government's request to conserve paper." Conversely, Diane is hosting a book burning next Friday. Loved that book. Should be no surprise to learn that I read it in Schaler's class. Posted by: Shayna | January 11, 2007 09:08 AMDitto!
