Plebs and Pubs
Wednesday night, I celebrated two friends' completions of undergraduate and graduate work -- first at an apartment, second at an "Irish" pub. A dive bar can easily be classed up for little money with the implementation of a Gaelic-style font in its logo and Guinness specials, preferably on "draught." The bar thus undergoes a metamorphisis from a lowly, smoke-filled rendezvous for the poor to a lowly, smoke-filled cultural experience -- usually for the poor as well. Nevertheless, an Absolut and soda does not differ in taste based on venue, and I do work at an entry-level position; I'm already making plans to meet with friends at a *pub* early next week.
